Yoga Video: Sun Salutation B

sun salb Hello sweet soul!

Everyone says September is the best month out here in the Hamptons, and I pretty much have to agree! Warm sun, empty beaches, and crisp evenings. Ahhh. So good.

This week, I filmed Sun Salutation B by the water in Sag Harbor. Hoping you can catch a glimpse of the paradise that is September! Remember, after you get this sequence into your body, you can tack it right onto Sun Salutation A for a nice, energetic flow!

Celebration time!

  Untitled 13

Woo! It’s time to celebrate! A new year is on it’s way! Every one I talk to has a good feeling about 2014.  It’s going to be an incredible year...and so I’ve put together a little exercise to get you thinking about your new year now and to fully set yourself up for success in 2014.

Take ten minutes to quickly answer the next series of questions.  Set a time limit and do not spend more than 30 seconds on each.  Your first reaction is the right one. Here we gooo!

What was your greatest joy in 2013?

What unexpected pleasures and people came into your life?

What was your greatest disappointment?

What are you bummed you didn’t accomplish?

Who did you hurt over the past year?

What would you do if you won a million dollars?

What is your most important goal right now?

What would you do if you knew this was your last year to live?

What have you always wanted to try but never have?

As we move into a new year, it is important to recognize the good and the bad from the year before.  A fresh start involves a whole lot of forgiveness and letting go.  So look those bruises and blisters from 2013 in the eye.   Forgive yourself.  Forgive the people who did you wrong.  Take a deep breath and let it all go. Leave 2013 where it belongs.

Stepping into 2014, how can you bring your goals to the forefront of your mind and your life?  How will you take action to make them happen? Set up a game plan.  Create a schedule.  Register for that big race.  Don’t wait.  Do it now.

What have you been waiting and waiting to do? What has been a dream of yours for a long time?  Where do you desperately want to go?  And how can you make that happen this year?

Time is all you’ve got.  One year is all you’ve got.  What will you make happen for yourself in the next 365 days?

If you need a kick in the butt getting it together, I’m totally here for you!   We can sit down and create an awesome, inspiring, gorgeous action plan to make 2014 the BEST year of your life.  That’s all I want for you.

I am also holding a Vision and Goals Workshop during Hamptons Wellness Week! Check out all the details at  It's going to be an amazing week and I'd love to see you there!

You’re incredible! Have a beautiful New Year’s Eve! I’ll toast to your dreams at mid-night;)

The Luckiest

"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from."

Seth Godin

Alert the East Hampton Star! I have left my five mile radius of East Hampton!

I am currently sitting in the JetBlue terminal at JFK feeling like the luckiest because I get to enjoy the gorgeousness of the Turks & Caicos with my amazing family in just a few short hours.   As bizarre and dumb as it sounds, I was actually a little sad to leave the sweet little home I’ve found in the Hamptons...especially in the middle of summer when one week feels like an entire season.

My journey here this morning reminded me how lucky I am to have a ridiculously balanced life.  I was on the LIRR into Queens at 6am and was immediately reminded of why I left the city. Every one is rushing. Every one seems stressed.  Every one seems anxious.  And there I was, moseying along with my yoga mat and orange juice without a care in the world.

My most recent sappy beach read (yes... a beach read that I learned something from) really made me think about balance in life.  It’s more than just feeling like you’re on vacation in the Hamptons every day (though there is nothing better).  It’s about realizing what’s important. What will bounce back...and what won’t.

Here is the story the author tells...

“Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls--family, health, friends, and integrity-- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.  And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life.”

-James Patterson, Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas

I love how he says, “ the beginnings of balance in your life”.  Understanding the lesson is not enough.  It’s a process.  It’s a continuous choice.  It takes constant awareness.  It takes checking back in.

So I’ve checked in with how my juggling act is going, and while I may think I’ve had an amazingly balanced life--- My life in the Hamptons has actually made me focus less on my family.  I have a tendency to get very caught up in the people here in front of me, and picking up the phone to call and check in is sometimes an after thought.  So this week away is less about relaxation, and more about family.'s all about my family.  Unplugging.  Being present with them.  Enjoying every moment with them.  Reconnecting and making amazing memories.

Check in on your juggling act.  Make sure it’s a good one and that you're not letting anything slip.

All my love,

Ain't no mountain high enough

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”

Possibility is perhaps the most thrilling concept I have ever grasped.  Possibility is what sets our world into motion, and makes the miraculous come to life.  It's that "I wonder if...", that mystery of the unknown, the creativity.

Jacki Carr and I met at a goal setting workshop in the Meatpacking district.  Jacki is an adventure seeker, a goalspirational speaker, and a life tweeter.   I was so inspired by her, I asked Jacki to share her thoughts on possibility.  I am so grateful to her for making this post possible--all the way from sunny California!

Find Jacki on twitter and also check out her blog.

This weekend, I created a possibility that inspires me beyond words!  I'm not going to tell you what it is just yet, BUT I can't wait to clue you in next week. So be sure to check back on Monday!

Until then--dwell in possibility!

All my joy,

How to Create a Vision for Your Life

My friend Micky is one of those people that always has something inspiring to say, and is always pushing me (without realizing!) to step into the life I really want to be living.  I wanted you to get some of her awesome advice!

I asked Micky to joined me in Union Square to talk about what it looks to like to create a powerful vision for your life.  Creating a vision for your life comes down to getting clear about what it is you want in life.   In this video, she walks you through an exercise she learned at lululemon that will help you get super crystal clear about what you want in your life.  I created a visual worksheet to help you walk through the exercise.

i want

Deepest gratitude to Micky for being willing to share this with you! I hope it helps you to take action.  And also thanks for Micky for being a positive influence on me and all those she meets every day!

Check out the vid, leave a comment, and take action today towards the life you want to live!

Hey Girl... Keep Running.

What are you training for this year?  I am SO excited to be running the 2013 MORE|Fitness Magazine Women's Half Marathon with some of my girlfriends!  I had a lot of fun playing with our training schedule and I thought I would share it with you!  If you click on the photo above it will enlarge and you can save it to your desktop.  Train along with us!

The training is taken from Hal Higdon's novice 1 marathon training program.  We are just stopping at 8 weeks:) This was the training schedule my friends and I used last fall to train for Grete's Great Gallop.  Here is a link to see the full training program!

Happy running!

PS~  Do you have any fun inspiration I can add to our training schedule??  Although... I don't think it can get any more inspiring than imagining Gosling at the finish line. ;)

Day Twenty Two, December Twenty Two

Day Twenty Two–December Twenty Two #25DaysofChristmas #SweetSweatCountdown

Activity du jour: FlyWheel Upper West Side with Jesse!

I love it when you take a class and something shifts inside you.  An "Ah-Ha" inspiration.  Jesse is one of those instructors that makes the wheels start to turn...on your bike, and in your brain.

It is also amazing to me how people step into your life at the exact moment you need them, or you need the inspiration they have to offer.  When I woke up today, I had no plans of coming to FlyWheel.  In a fun twist of events, I ended up in Jesse's class...and what he had to offer, was exactly what I needed today.

Personally, I have been waiting on a lot of things, a lot of people, a lot of circumstances, a lot within myself to get the ball rolling in several aspects of my life.  Waiting, waiting, and waiting.  I'm so tired of waiting!

Then I went to Jesse's class and this is what I heard, learned and realized today in class:

You do not need to wait for anyone or anything in order to move order to be the person you want to be, to do the things you want to do, to live the life you are meant to live.  You have the power to change yourself now and move onward.  You do not need to wait.  So don't!  Stop waiting and start doing what you're supposed to do.  Start now...don't wait any longer.

What a perfect transition out of 2012 into 2013.  I'm naming it my year of not waiting!  My year of taking risks.  My year of big change.  My year of moving forward.  I can't I won't.  I will start my new year today.

What is 2013 going to be like for you??

Whatever your year will be like, you don't have to wait until January 1st to start. Start your change now.  Start taking risks now.  Start living the life you want now.

xoxo, Jenna

Day Eighteen, December Eighteen

Day Eighteen–December Eighteen #25DaysofChristmas #SweetSweatCountdown

Activity du jour: Stocking run!!

My roommate and I walked out of our rooms in matching socks today...and decided this run was our stocking run! We ran 5.5 miles through Sunnyside and Astoria, Queens...and ended up taking off our jackets around mile two.  Why is it 50 degrees when Christmas is in a week??

No idea.

Make sure to hang your stocking this week!;)

xoxo, Jenna

PS~ I don't recommend hydrating with egg nog... or wine.  I got home from Flywheel last night, and the girls and I had a bit of wine. Many cramps, many weird pains during the run this morning...

Day Seventeen, December Seventeen

Day Seventeen–December Seventeen #25DaysofChristmas #SweetSweatCountdown

Activity du jour: FlyWheel Upper West Side with Ryan!!

The holidays are all about get togethers and fun...and this class was a freakin party! Ryan has so much energy, and is SO into the moment with you that you can't help but get completely absorbed yourself (and feel like a total bad ass along the way).

It was even more fun because a big group of us from lululemon were there together, and sweating our faces off. Let's do it again soon, guys:)

We love you Ryan! Thanks for an amazing, crazy, sweaty party!

xoxo, Jenna

Day Fourteen, December Fourteen

Day Fourteen–December Fourteen #25DaysofChristmas #SweetSweatCountdown

Activity du jour: Spinning to Christmas music in our window!

Not as easy as it seems!! Every other Christmas song is slooowww... but it was so awesome to switch it up a bit and spin in the middle of my work day!  Thanks to FlyWheel for giving us this awesome bike! Can't wait to take class at the new studio on West 83rd!! (I'll be there Monday in Ryan's class:))

Short and sweet and to the point today.  Wishing you a happy weekend!

xoxo, Jenna

PS~Having my hair down lasted 2 minutes... don't think for a second I spin for real looking like that.
