Feelin like Cinderella

There is only a little bit more time before the clock strikes midnight and we're diving head first into a bright new year! So much magic, promise and hope lingers in the air! (Hence...why I'm feelin like 'ella.) ;)I love fresh starts and I know that 2015 will bring a number of surprises and joys into your life.  You can (and will!) create a life you love this year.   The only caveat is that you must take some time now to prep for it.

Before you raise your glass of champagne, take some quiet time with your favorite cup of tea, a journal, and the fuzziest blanket you can find.

Relax. Take a deep breath.  Begin to write. 

How was 2014? What worked? What didn't work? What heartbreaks are you still holding onto? What pains, what mistakes, what guilt are you clinging to? Who are you not forgiving? What failures are haunting you?

Acknowledge each and every one.  Get it out in the open. Get it all out.

Then let it go.  Forgive them. Forgive yourself. Declare it to the universe--boldly and clearly:

I release ______________. I let go of _____________.

Write those two phrases as often as you need to until it's all out--- until nothing lingers under the surface.

Then choose one word that describes how you want 2015 to feel. Choose one powerful, positive, juicy, delicious, feel-good word.

There is so much power in your words. Declare this intention for 2015:

In 2015, I feel _________________.

Write this wish, this intention, this declaration every and anywhere you might see it day to day.  Write it in your journal. Write it beautifully. Display it on your nightstand, your fridge, in your car, on your bathroom mirror.

Let your goals in 2015 be motivated by this declaration.  Move towards people, experiences, and activities that bring this declaration to the surface.

ENJOY this beautiful year ahead. Enjoy this sweet fresh start.

Gratitude Meditation

let go and live in gratitude This is the season of letting go.  A season of releasing, surrendering, and shedding. The leaves have let go.  The harvest has let go. All of the earth is letting go, surrendering, shedding weight.  Releasing the fruits of the seasons...good or imperfect.

Before we all get swept off our feet and into full force holiday mode, just take a day, a morning, a few moments to mirror what is happening in nature.  Go to a yoga class. Take a nice long walk in nature.  Enjoy a hot bath.  Cozy up with your journal and a cup of tea. Just reflect.

What do you need to release in order to be fully present over the holidays? What do you need to let go of in order to find peace, joy, and gratitude? What do you need to surrender in order to feel a lightness in your heart?

Let go of those things that no longer serve you.  Let go of those thoughts that only cause you pain.  Let go of resentment. Let go of control.

Release and feel only gratitude.

Find a quiet spot and a comfortable seat.  Gently close your eyes.  Feel the inhale at the tip of your nose.  The warmth of your exhale. Breathe deeply.  Complete the sentence "I am grateful for___________ ." ten times (or more!). Let a sense of gratitude warm up your insides like a cozy cup of tea.

Feel, and move, and breathe from this warm place of gratitude this holiday season.

Yoga Video: Warm Up for Athletes

It is fall and people are diving into sports! Marathon training, football, hockey, tennis, soccer-- everyone is up to something. I created this warm up to prevent injury in athletes.  I've already witnessed too many athletes pulling muscles and hurting themselves.  Warming up well is the key to preventing injury!

In reality, any one can use this warm up! It's great for any type of movement, and even just as a straight up yoga warmup! It is a great warmup for any movement. I've known too many athletes getting injured recently and warming up is the key to preventing injury!

So before you hop on the court or field, take 5-10 minutes to do this juicy yoga warm up!

Positive Thoughts: How to lift your spirits on a rainy day

rainy day Ever have those days (Or maybe weeks, or maybe months---perhaps even years!) where you are in a funk and you just can’t get out of it? I totally get it. Those days for me happen on rainy, dreary, sleepy days.  (I’m sunshine, summer girl;)).

The funny thing is-- I wake up on rainy days and the first thing I think is “Gahh what a bummer! Where’s the sun?? I wanted to go to the beach, go for a bike ride, do yoga outside jump in the pool! Blah this stinks.” And the rest of my day turns out to pretty much be a bummer. If every day were like this, I would end up with a bummer-of-a-life!

If you’re having a bummer-of-a-day, check yo’ thoughts! Your thoughts color your world, your reality--your soul.  Here are my go to pick me ups and resources for positive thoughts galore:

1. Get your sweet soul to a yoga class. (Seriously---yoga is my cure all for any less than colorful, less than beautiful thoughts. Even just a few poses that get me upside down turn my mind right side up.)

2. Get out that inspiring book.  The one you can count on to bring some soul-shining goodness into your being.  Read just a chapter, or even a few lines.  I looove Marianne Williamson and have two of her books in arms reach almost at all times:)  Usually one is kinda all crumpled in my purse;)

3. Find an uplifting movie to lift your spirits.  Disney anyone? Tangled, Frozen, Up-- maybe an inspiring documentary that will make you weep with joy? Just make sure whatever you watch has a happy ending;)

4. Go for a walk. Even if it’s raining. The fresh air, nature, being closer to the earth will change your mood and freshen your soul. I always find that whenever I’ve been inside for more than 3 or 4 hours, I’m desperate to get outside.  Just go:)

5. Embrace it.  Every season, every mood has its benefits and happens for a particular reason.  Make a cup of peppermint tea and stay awhile:)

Peace + Stillness = Bliss

Do you ever feel like you can't relax? I've been in the Hamptons 4 days, and I'm just now finally starting to slow down my speed from hyper speed city life, to laid back beach living. It's no surprise that when I first started practicing yoga seriously several years ago, Savasana always seemed difficult to me.  "Just lie there? Don't do anything? What do you mean? Nothing? What is the point?" My brain would be in a battle with my teacher. I was never able to fully relax. And what did I find in my life at that time? I was anxious. I was unable to stop moving. I was unable to take a day off.  I had to keep working because if I stopped, I would fall behind. I couldn't fall behind. Everything rested on the work I was doing, every day, every moment.

Or so I thought.

I was not getting anywhere. The things I worked so hard at and kept so busy with meant nothing after a while. I started realizing all of my goals had no real purpose. I kept coming to my mat because I kept finding purpose there. I kept finding meaning. I started craving the stillness. I started noticing how tired I actually was-- not just physically, but also mentally & emotionally. I was beaten up.  The person who did the beating was me. I didn't give myself time to relax.

So last summer (as everyone in my life knows),  I ran away to the beach.  There in the sun of Egypt Beach in East Hampton, I developed my own daily practice. I woke up daily and biked to the deserted beach to practice.  On my own, I let the sun and the crashing sound of the waves heal me.  I forgave myself.  Accepted myself. I challenged myself. And finally, I was able to lie completely still--mind still, body still-- in Savasana for 15 minutes. Total relaxation.

I had never taken a meditation course. I had never been told that the point of yoga was to still & prepare the mind for meditation. But on that quiet beach with waves crashing & sun glowing, my natural inclination was to sit tall, still and without constant badgering of my mind. I felt the closest to God in that one moment than any other moment in my life. That moment brings me back to my mat daily. Savasana is the game changer. Being totally in Savasana brings me right back to that blissful beach moment with God.

How can you bring more Savasana to your life? How can you disconnect from the chaos and reconnect to that which matters most? How can you find a few quite moments with your soul?

It's something I have to consciously work towards every week, every day.  But it is so, so worth it:) Yoga bliss happens in Savasana.  Life bliss happens when you slow down enough to notice how beautiful and wonderful things really are.

Soulful Liberation

The seen is the nature of the gunas (qualities of nature): illumination, activity, and inertia; and consists of the elements and sense organs, who purpose is to provide both experiences and liberation to the Purusa (soul).

This winter was the hardest and longest winter I’ve ever experienced. I went from cursing the sleet and snow, to deep sadness and longing for warmth.  Then I would switch from frustration, to anger until finally--after the blustering winds wouldn’t stop...I became content, even happy!  I made a conscious choice to lift my focus higher--to the soul level.

All that is around us is there to help us towards our soulful liberation--our soul’s union with God and with love.

So in the dark of winter, I made the choice that I was tired of feeling the way I was feeling.  I was tired of cursing my conditions.  I began to meditate and pray every morning...not even for a long time! Just a few minutes to get my mind in the right place.  I started a gratitude journal.  I focused on positive mantras throughout my day and my yoga practice. Every time a negative thought came to mind, I would switch it instantly with a blessing.

And now, I hardly even notice that it’s the first day of spring and I’m still wearing my down, long black winter coat.  (I mean... I definitely notice... but I’m not upset by it;))

Our experiences--good and seemingly negative-- help to liberate our soul.  Our soul only feels free when it is light and full of love.  This happens when we perceive all that is around us with gratitude and joy.  Yes, even the experiences that scratch and claw at our hearts leaving us sore and hurt. Those heart wrenching, utterly painful experiences exist to strengthen your soul.  In fact, they are doing the dirty work to make your soul even more beautiful, even more aligned with God and with pure love.

Nothing lasts forever.  Things are constantly changing, constantly bringing to our attention new experiences, new trials, new joys.  True freedom comes when we are able to live through those experiences without despair.  In fact, peace comes when despair is replaced with gratitude because we know that all of it--the pain, the heartache, the tears, the bitter cold--it’s all for our own growth, our highest good, and the elevation of our souls to a shining, bright place.

And that is my wish for you. True freedom in knowing that all the terrible things will get better and that YOU will shine brighter because of it.

Meet Dani!

dani I'm so excited to introduce to you my friend, Dani! She is such an inspiring runner and her passion for it exudes into all areas of her life.  She uses her beautiful gift and passion to truly make a difference in her own community, and that makes her presence so bright.  When are you doing what you love and letting that shape your community, it truly shines from your soul and people can't help but notice.

 Her Story:

Dani was born in Manhattan and has been chasing her dreams in NYC for the last 10 years! She is a second grade teacher at a public school on the upper west side, a Pilates instructor at Power Pilates in midtown east, an AADP certified holistic health coach/nutrition counselor, and a runner on the Central Park Track Club. As if she wasn't busy enough, she also is a Girls on the Run coach, a volunteer for Back on My Feet NYC (an organization that uses running as a tool to motivate people experiencing homelessness), and an essential community leader at lululemon athletica, 75th and Broadway.

 

What makes you shine? When do you glow?

Inspiring others to live a healthy, active lifestyle makes me shine. I glow when I hear stories from people who have bettered their lives exercise and eating healthy. I also glow when I make people laugh or smile. It feels so good to help other people realize their potential.

What do you LOVE to do? What is your passion?

I LOVE to run, it is my passion! There is nothing better then lacing up my sneakers and heading out for a solo run to clear my head or to meet running buddies for some miles and socializing. I love how running can be an individual and group sport at the same time. The best part about running is that it doesn't discriminate. Anyone can do it! I am also passionate about eating healthy, whole foods. Food is fuel. It is so important to put nutritious, real food into your body so it can thrive! I also love to dance because it is such a freedom of expression and it makes me feel free.

When are you the happiest?

I am happiest when I am taking care of my body by exercising, eating well, and getting enough sleep. I am also happiest when my friends and family are happy! Happiness is contagious :)

What inspires you?

My dreams inspire me! They keep me motivated and focused. My friends and family and friends also inspire me to work even harder because they are so amazing.

 

What is your big goal? Or one goal you would like to highlight?

I have many goals so it's hard to just pinpoint one, but for now I'd have to say that my big goal is to break 3:20 in the marathon distance (hopefully in 7 weeks at the Boston Marathon, ahh)! I have been chasing this goal for a few years and I WILL get there!

Who is your biggest influence?

My biggest influence is my mother. She is driven, hard working, intelligent, and goes after what she wants. She has always inspired me to be the best version of myself and to go after my dreams. My mom is my biggest supporter and has always been in my corner. I am so grateful and lucky to have her in my life.

Meet Nikki!

I am so excited to share with you the light and beauty of my friend Nikki!  Upon meeting her, you know she is up to something as she glows from the inside out.  When are you doing what you love, it shines from your soul (and people can't help but notice).

Her Story:

Originally from Rochester, Nikki moved to NYC when she was 18 years old.  She had to learn the ropes of how to get connected in the Broadway community and has now been a musical theatre performer for 17 years.  She has performed on Broadway and in National Tours, and has played all of the US in regional productions.  You may have seen her high kick at Radio City Music Hall  as a Rockette.  Nikki has danced with the Backstreet Boys, Jessica Simpson, and N’Sync. Now, she's transitioning out of the business and is working for Stage Door Connections, a career developing company that provides seminars and workshops to dancers and singers on how to perfect their craft.

What makes you shine?

Being on stage. There’s something about that feeling when I step foot onto a stage and can get lost in my dancing. It’s what gets me up in the morning and has always made me shine from within.

When do you glow?

When I teach someone a show and see the progression in their learning. Having them come up to me and say “Thank You” and “I feel more confident”, always makes me glow.

What do you love to do?

Besides Dance….COOKING! I love and have the biggest passion for cooking. I’ve been in the kitchen learning from my Grandma and Mom since I was real little, and I love going home and cooking a meal for my boyfriend and I. I also LOVE going to cooking classes in the city and learning a new cuisine.

When are you the happiest?

Sunday night, at home with my boyfriend and our animals, enjoying a glass of wine, and watching Breaking Bad. Complete bliss.

What inspires you?

People who always want more with their career. I am  not a settler with any of my jobs. I always want more and try to surround myself with people who are always growing and learning.

This is a personal BIG Goal: I travel to Europe by September 2014. I’ve never been to Europe and I can’t wait to take a trip!

Who is your biggest influence?

My boyfriend. He inspires me in so many ways. He has taught me so much about life and love, but has also influenced me to step out of my comfort zone and go after a new career.

Lately I’ve been drawn to this [i believe made up] word.  A word that describes your spirit when you are living out your dream.

 

Soulshine.

  What is it?   It is those moments when you are undeniably happy, glowing, and radiate light.  It’s this place in you of pure love, pure joy, and pure purpose.  When you are living in this place, you are influencing the world in a huge way.  It’s your soul awake, you're fully alive, and you can't help but smile.  It’s your life--on purpose.  It’s that thing that you are reeeally good, and that you reeeeally love too--and it makes people stop and notice that your glowing.  They can see your eyes shining.

The cool thing is that living out of your Soulshine is perfectly unique and perfectly beautiful for each person.  It’s like you’ve been given an internal fingerprint that no one else has.  When you are letting your soul shine, you give others permission to do the same thing.  You give others hope.  You show them that yes, it can be done.  This passionate life you dream of? Yes, it’s totally possible.

My dream is to see more people living from their “soulshine”.  I think the world would change drastically if more people tapped into their talents, passions, and abilities.  Problems would be solved left and right.  We’d be left with love, and light--beauty and grace--and a whole lot of happiness.

5 [inexpensive] Ways to Beat the Winter Blues

Alright so I’ve been on the struggle bus when it comes to the winter blues.  I am self proclaimed summer girl and wildly acknowledged people person.  Around this point, winter in New York becomes my worst enemy.  In aggressively defending myself against the polar vortex this year, I’ve learned some easy tricks to beat winter at it’s own [evil] game. winterblues

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1. Surround yourself with happy friends

I can’t tell you how important this is and it’s also sometimes the hardest to do.  It’s way too easy to isolate yourself when it’s cold and you don’t want to go outside.  So think of the friends you always feel good around, and schedule plans with them for later this week! Heck, why not have good old fashioned slumber party! A night of laugher cures everything.  Get a group of old friends together and reminisce about college.  Maybe even embrace the cold, and go ice skating together or sledding! I promise you, surrounding yourself with good, positive, energetic people will lift your spirits more than almost anything.

2. Take a hot yoga class

This has been my staple this winter.  I go to a typical vinyasa class regularly, but this winter I’ve been turning up the heat in hot classes.  Sometimes you just can’t get that last chill out of your bones.  Not only will a hot yoga class heat you up, but it will lift your spirit and leave you in pure bliss.  Namaste:)

3. Take up a new hobby

Get your fingers and your mind active.  It’s easy to curl up into bed and watch Netflix for 4 hours.  Instead, put on a tea pot and paint for an afternoon.  Grab a fun coloring book and colored pencils.  Learn to knit.  Write letters to family.  Your mind, whether your realize it or not, is craving stimulation.  Activities that use your motor skills will keep your brain sharp.

4. Treat yourself

Get your hair highlighted.  Go to a spa.  Get a massage.  Paint your nails. Do a facial.  Put a conditioning treatment in your hair.  Splurge on a new luxury lotion.  Do something to make yourself feel good, special and better.   Winter is the time I am the hardest on myself and feel the worst.  Giving your self time to pamper will lift your spirits.

5.  Start the day with a positive affirmation or positive thought

Our first thoughts in the morning can [and will] affect our entire day.  Instead of thinking how awful it is to get out of bed and get dressed in the cold, reflect on something more positive.  Dedicate the first moments of your day positivity, miracles, and wonder.  Spend time in prayer.  Repeat a positive mantra.  Meditate on lovely things.  Reflect on what you’re grateful for.  Arm your spirit with good, positive, lovely things and the harshness of the winter will roll right off your back.

Glowing hearts and shiny souls:)

I’m gonna be real for a second.

There is a woman out there in the world, about my age, who is living and breathing and working my dream career.  She is funny and cool and creative and people just love her!  I have thought to myself many a times, “Well if she’s doing it, what’s the point of me even trying? Does the world really need two of us doing the same thing?  Can we even both shine and be extraordinary at this?”  In the back of my mind, she is always there and in those secret, sneaky corners of my brain, I compare my every action to what she’s doing and what she’s done.  Whether or not it's true, I always think she’s doing a better job!!

Do you ever feel like this?!

Call me out if I’m crazy, but I think we have tendency to constantly compare, beat ourselves down, and stop all the magic from happening for us!

Friday night, I had the lucky opportunity to attend Crazy Sexy Miracles with Gabby Bernstein and Kris Carr right here in New York City.  It was an extraordinarily beautiful night of healing, laughter, “ah-ha” and “Mmmhmmmm!” moments.  I sat there in awe of these two beautiful, passionate, strong women who were able to share a stage and both shine so brightly.

At one point, someone even directly asked them a question about how to deal with comparing and competition. Kris Carr, calmly and serenely answered:

“Stars don’t compare themselves to other stars.  Look to nature.  How do the stars do it?”

Ok let’s look to the stars for a moment.  How do they do it!?  Well, what comes to mind is how nice it is to see just one star shining on a dark night in between buildings in New York.  Then I imagine being way far out in the country side where it is pitch black, and quiet and still and I finally look up!  How incredibly breathtaking is it to see thousands and thousands of stars lighting up the night sky?!   You stand in awe.  You can hardly take it all in.  Then there are shooting stars, and dancing stars, and glowing stars-- The entire landscape is just gorgeous.

We’re not meant to compare our gifts.

Our gifts, our talents, our passions--they’re special and perfect and needed--needed to create this gorgeous landscape of glowing hearts and shiny souls.  When we are all able to shine, and dance, and gleam and glow without comparison, side by side... wow!! It’s going to be such a beautiful sight.:)

Four Rules to Live By

Let’s do a little check in!! How is your sparkling new year going?! How are those goals, those resolutions, and healthy habits?

Not so great? Well don’t you worry.  I was just rereading a chapter from one of my fav Marianne Williamson books and I was reminded of these four simple rules to make miracles happen.  I’m all about makin miracles and magic happen, so I decided to adopt these rules as my theme for the year.  Check them out!

 1. Be Positive.

Positive people are just the BEST!  Let’s live on the sunny side of the street, spread joy, and lift people’s spirits.  Not only is it just way more fun than the alternative, but did you ever notice how positive people tend to get promoted, get offered new jobs, and get new opportunities? Positivity is contagious.  Everybody wants a piece of it and everybody wants to be around it.  Be the bright beam that everybody gravitates towards this year!

2. Send Love.

Love is seriously the best thing you can give another person.  Romance or not (and lord knows I looooove romance), sharing love---even if it’s just a mental hug--can shift some big stuff.  I remember way back in the day when I was teaching, I would think of my “tricky” students and blast them with love before I would arrive at school.  Not only did it change my attitude towards them, but it changed our whole teacher/student relationship! The “tricky” people in our life just need a little more love.  So give it to them!

3. Have funnnn!!!

Yes! Yes! Let’s ALL agree to have waaaay more fun this year!! Life is so short and I don’t want to waste another second not having the time of my life.  Dance in the streets!  Sing with that  steel drum player guy in the Subway at Times Square!  Stay up too late chatting with your girlfriends over wine [or dude friends...Uhh...grunt at football games over beer?]  Enjoy this crazy ride we’re on.   We’re not getting any younger;)

4. Kick Ass.

Whatever you do, kick ASS doing it.  Whatever job you’re in, be freakin amazing at it.  I don’t care if you’re a janitor, be the BEST janitor this side of the universe has ever SEEN! No being flakey.  No being lame about meaningless tasks.  Put all your energy into making the work you do AMAZING and more of the work that you care about will come your way.  It’s science;)

Confession Time.

Ok, I have a confession.  I failed at my New Years Resolution within the first THREE hours of the new year!  I only mildly, vaguely, kinda sorta committed to the idea of being a vegetarian in 2014.   So in the midst of champagne celebrations on New Years Eve, I was handed a chicken sandwich and my resolution was out the door. Alright, so resolutions shmesolutions.  Nobody likes them! They don’t work.  You end up just giving up when you feel a little depressed about failing at them so quickly.  What does actually work and is super exciting is goals! Setting a few clear, specific, and inspiring goals will change your year-- and your entire life.

I need to lose this extra weight from the holidays is soooo not inspiring to me. Blah. Ick. Get it away.

I try out three new classes every week  or  My boyfriend and I cook a new vegetarian meal together every Friday.  Uhh...excuse me but those goals actually sound pretty fun!

We are going to make 2014 the BEST year--the year you start living your dreams and having tons of fun.  I’m going to help you a bit.  Here are three simple steps to help you elevate this year to the next level of awesome.

Three:

Get crystal clear on what your dream year and dream life actually looks like.  You can’t expect it to fall out of the sky, because even if it did--you wouldn’t recognize it because you don’t know what it is you want!  Take some time (like we’re talking 10 minutes), sit down and make a list.  Draw a picture. Create a board on pinterest.  Do some honest soul searching.   What does your ideal life, your ideal year really look like?   By ideal, I’m talking wildest dreams. Endless possibility.  Nothing is too crazy, too bold, too risky.  It’s your year to start being honest with yourself and start living like you mean it.

Where do you dream of living?  What do you daydream about doing for work?  Do you want to travel? Where do you want to go?  How do you take care of yourself?  Do you wish you could run a marathon?  Do you want to feel like you belong to a community? What does that look like to you?  What do you want to do for fun? What is important to you? What do you value? What have you always wanted to try? Heck...what would you do if you won a million dollars tomorrow?

Two:

Once you know what it is you really want, you can start setting some inspiring goals for yourself!  Goals give you a target,  that clear, specific spot to set your aim towards and ultimately reach.  Goal setting sets your dreams into motion and gets your creative, subconscious brain moving in the right direction, YOUR direction.  Your goals are 100% authentic to you and inspire you to take action.  Brian Tracy (goal setting guru that he is) says that, “People with clear, written goals accomplish far more in a shorter period of time than people without them could ever imagine. Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor.” Sounds pretty awesome, right?

I’m going to be delving a WHOLE lot more into goal setting, bucket lists, and dreams during my New Year’s Vision and Goals workshop during Hamptons Wellness Week (www.hamptonswellnessweek.com).  I hope you’ll join me then so we can get super clear, specific and inspired for 2014!

Finally, the NUMBER one thing you need to do to make 2014 your BEST year yet, is to get into action now!  Your dreams, goals and visions for your life are so beautiful and so perfect. The only way the world will ever see your greatness is if you choose greatness today.  Choose to show up for yoga class.  Choose to read that book, write that book, or give away that book!  Choose to eat your broccoli, kale and green beans.  Choose to spend time with the people who matter to you.  Choose to sign up for that race.  All it takes is one teeny tiny small action a day to bring you closer to your wildest dreams.  You are what’s going to take your year to the next level.  So many adventures are waiting, so many melt your heart snapshot moments, and so many “hell yeah, I did that!”s are just beyond these initial footsteps.  Commit to choosing your dream life, and you will have it.  It’s going to be an awesome year!!

Why 2014 is going to Knock your Socks off!

A few months ago, I was chatting with Jenna about goals, life, and all things great. Jenna helped me to set real, concrete goals for my life, both business and personal. I was feeling really excited about what was to come. So excited to get tackling my goals and experience the life I’ve always wanted. It was then that Jenna asked what really drove me to start One Healthy Hamptons and what I dreamt it to be. I started One Healthy Hamptons last April to provide a resource, local e-magazine, and a community to celebrate and grow health and wellness here in this amazing place we call home. I wanted to rejoice the uniqueness of this beautiful place full of incredible people and outstanding resources. But why? Why me? Why here? Why now?

Why not just let people do what they want to do? Health is already a huge part of the Hamptons community; we love our fitness classes, our kale salad, and our fun nights out, embracing the Hamptons scene, all while penciling in the next day’s workout…right? But, is it a positive thing? Are we just going through the motions and working out to make space for the fun? Are we indulging with thoughts of cardio and detox? If this is you, don’t worry, this was me too.

I started OHH because I am so DONE living like that. We only have one life, only 364.5 more days to enjoy and embrace 2014. So, unless we’re enjoying the process, it’s really just a big, huge waste of valuable time. I started One Healthy Hamptons because I was DONE with this deranged mindset. DONE with society’s pressures to ‘get skinny.’ DONE with the cycle of overindulging followed by detox, diet, and cardio binges. Ugh, what a miserable, unbalanced way to NOT enjoy all of the valuable time we have on this earth. I was DONE with the negativity that’s been so closely wound into such positive concepts of health and wellness. DONE hearing, seeing, judging others, done being jealous, done overdoing it for all of the wrong reasons. I know if I was DONE, that lots of others must be just as fed up, just as ready to turn things around. Once I hit this realization, things began to shift, especially as my eyes opened to the unique world of wellness throughout the Hamptons. Health and wellness became a positive passion, not a negative obsession. One Healthy Hamptons resulted from my growing passion to turn negativity to positivity and to spread that positivity throughout the place I love to call home as much as possible. To connect people over the common theme of embracing health and wellness.

I started One Healthy Hamptons to get the message across, not just to other young girls with deranged mindsets from society’s impact, but to an entire community of diverse people, that being healthy and fit, making wellness a priority, doesn’t have to be a sacrifice at all. It can actually be a balanced, ENJOYABLE process with huge positive outcomes. Eating healthy is fun. Working out is fun. Trying new things, challenging our selves, pushing the limits, attaining goals – it’s all fun. The things that make us feel our best, our strongest, our healthiest, are GOOD for us and they deserve to be embraced.

I workout because I ENJOY it and I eat what I ENJOY. One Healthy Hamptons is built on the premise of balance in life, not extreme exercise, not cutting calories, or cutting fun in any way. I’m not the fittest one in the class, but I’ll try pretty much anything. I overcame a serious hatred of running by…running! I crave healthy food that actually tastes good. If it were up to me, peanut butter would be a central part of every meal and workout clothes would be an acceptable ensemble everywhere – always. My passions are pure. I simply LOVE to feel good and I’m passionate about to helping others feel the same.

partyMy drive to start this community, One Healthy Hamptons, came from the desire to fully embrace the positivity of health and wellness and to make it that much more accessible for all of us. In a few short weeks, once we’ve settled into 2014, gotten used to our routines, and hopefully taken the holiday decorations down, health and wellness in the Hamptons is going to be the MOST accessible it’s ever been. We’re throwing a party and it’s called Hamptons Wellness Week. For one week only, all things healthy and well Montauk to Westhampton will be RIGHT at your fingertips.

If you're anything like me, you probably have this bright, beautiful vision for your life down the road, in the future, somewhere in the distant yonder.  Most days, I’m  just dying be there!  I want to take a big jump from A to Z…and skip all that in between stuff.

The thing with setting a beautiful vision for your life is that sometimes it is easy to spend all day daydreaming and planning and pinning your future (wedding on pinterest before you even have that cutie boyfriend).

But after all is said and done, we must take action today to get to our beautiful dreams of tomorrow.

If you're anything like me, you are stunned it is practically December!  Thanksgiving in my hometown (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) left me reflecting on how truly blessed I am.  Not only do I have the opportunity to pursue my passion, but I have a cozy NYC apartment to come home to every night, a true blessing after Sandy.

Well...go ahead and tell me!  What is it that scares you??

For me, it was running.  I love yoga; I love dance...but running? It’s never been easy, and definitely never been fun.   So when my friend and coworker, Lauralea, asked me to join her in running a half marathon this fall, I thought I would never survive running 2 miles.  In fact, I flat out told her I was scared and that I wasn’t sure I could do it.

Here I am, three weeks into training and I am so happy to report that not only did I run those two miles, but on the first day of training I ran three miles.  I’ve been successfully keeping up with our half marathon training schedule ever since!   7 miles last weekend, and headed into 9 miles next weekend.

What’s the benefit to doing something that scares you?   You show yourself you are stronger than you think you are.  You leave the experience so empowered, inspired, and in awe of your own strength.  You exceed your own expectations for yourself.

Do not let your fears dictate what you think you are capable of accomplishing.  You are incredible and you have yet to discover your own strength.

So tell me again...what is it that scares you?

Go out there and do it!  Try it, tackle it, and kick its ass. The experience will change you and inspire you.
